Hat on a Cat
I always find miniature things to be fun and interesting. When I saw a "Cat in the Hat" hat that someone had crocheted I thought it would be cute to make a tiny hat like it for my cat! Kiki my cat modeled for me and was surprisingly very photogenic.
I had lots of fun designing this hat and I hope you enjoy my instructable!
Supplies
You will need:
- crochet hook
- red yarn
- white yarn
- tapestry needle
Crochet "Hat on a Cat" Pattern
For this hat I worked in a spiral so there is no joining each round. Just keep going from one round to the next using a stitch marker to keep track of the beginning of each round. Also I just carried my two colors up the inside of my hat. I found this much easier than trying to cut and reattach the colors every time.
Optional: In this pattern I used a technique for jogless stripes found in this awesome tutorial. Check it out if you like.
Abbreviations:
St = stitch
Sc = single crochet
Start the hat with the red yarn.
Round 1: Make a magic ring and sc 6 times into it. (6)
Round 2: 2 sc into each st. (12)
Round 3: *2sc, sc repeat from * around. (18)
Round 4-6: Sc around. (18)
For the next 8 rounds switch between red and white yarn every two rows starting with white.
Round: 7-14: Sc around. (18)
Now to work the brim switch to the white yarn one final time.
Round 15: 2 sc in each st around. (36)
Round 16: Sc around. (36)
Bind off and use tapestry needle to weave in ends.
Picture Time
Now that your hat is done go find your cat and take some pictures!
I found that once I let my cat smell the hat and see what it was that he let me put it on his head. Then I started taking pictures until he knocked it off and I tried again.
I think he looks very handsome in his new hat!
Thanks for reading! I hope you have fun making your own hat!
