Highlighter Disguised USB

I am a fan of spy action movies so I always wanted one of those gadgets that they use. So I went on and made a USB flash drive disguised as a highlighter. The highlighter seemed like an easy place to hide a USB drive as it has plenty of space, unlike a pen. So that's enough talking let's start making.

Supplies

  • A functional USB drive - Preferably a small compact one
  • OR a micro SD card with an SD card reader, like I have used.
  • An old/new highlighter.
  • A plastic card.
  • Everyday craft items.

If u are using a compact USB flash drive that can fit into the end cap of your highlighter skip this step.

Take your SD card reader and disassemble it as shown. Keep the rectangular part that is used to achieve the connection between the USB and device.

Take your micro SD card and tape it to your card reader as shown and secure it tightly to avoid any loose connections.

cover up the reader with electric tape and then use heat shrink tubing to finish it off.

Next, add the USB head to it as shown. and now u got a USB made from a micro SD card.

The highlighter I have used is a maxi highlighter premium. This one has an inner tube that contains the highlighter fluid. The first step is to remove the tube and take the highlighter fluid out as shown. Then we cut the tube so that the USB can easily fit into the end of the tube comfortably (Here only the body of the USB has to fit into the end while the head will be jotting out). Then the highlighter fluid tube has to be cut so that the head of the USB has enough space in the other end of the inner tube. Please read the next step before attempting to make it.

Now to hold the USB in place we use a piece of plastic with a hole cut for the head of the USB. Cut it accordingly as shown in the picture above and paste it to that back end of the inner tube we cut earlier. Remember that the body of the USB should be comfortably placed in the back end of the inner tube.

This is the other part of the inner tube the one containing the fluid tube. We cut the fluid tube so that the head of the USB has space to slide into and then place it in the inner tube. Then we slide the inner tube into the highlighter while making sure the fluid tube touches the tip.

now u can place the end of the inner tube. To ensure the end will not fall off add a rubber band around the neck of the end cap.
