Frosting

Gel Dye: Brown, black, red

Brown petal dust

Carving

I like to start with a cross grid. Just a light incision will do it. This will help you map out where to carve the features. Begin shaving cake away in the shape of a face, little by little.

Molding

Add a thin layer of frosting and refrigerate for about 20 minutes or until semi firm. At this point, add a little bit of cake dough over the cheek bone area to form cheeks, over her brow bone, and down the bridge of the nose. Continue to chill as necessary and when you fill confident, apply another layer of frosting. Chill for at least 30 minutes and smooth out the face with your fingers (wearing gloves). I prefer to dip my fingers in warm water, this way I get a super smooth finish.

Facial Structure

Add extra fondant pieces to form the eyes and mouth. This way they'll be firm and you can shape them easily under the final layer of fondant.

Roll out a layer of pale beige fondant and apply over the cake. Smooth with your fingers and form the fondant to the cake. Add white flat balls of fondant over the eye socket area, then apply (with water) two thin pieces of fondant over the eyes to form lids. You can apply the lids before or after painting the iris.

Using red gel dye, carefully brush some of the dye onto the lips in the shape of a kiss. If you look closely you can see that Winnies lips were made to look smaller in the movie using this technique. Put a small dab of red dye onto your finger and tap onto cheeks. Use a damp napkin to blend this out to look like blush.

Use brown and black gel dye to paint the eyes and eye lashes. Roll small thin pieces of brown fondant to make eyelashes and apply to the top and bottom lids using water or edible glue.

Using a fluffy makeup brush (only used for food) carefully brush on some brown petal dust to contour and shade the eye sockets down to the nose. If you want to take it further, you can brush a tad under the cheek area.

Hair

I used cake dough for the base of her hair by forming two bun shapes onto the top of her head. Roll out red fondant and cover the cake dough bringing it down slightly onto her forehead and ear area. Cut out the shape of her hairline - don't forget the widow's peak. Now roll pieces of deep orange and red fondant and apply them to the hair in various directions. This part is a lot of fun, you get to create her curls. Make sure to bring a little bit of the "hair" down onto her face to add more shape and definition.

Finishing Touches

Lastly, I formed the ears and applied them to her face. Then used a fondant mold to create her earrings. I painted the earrings with bronze petal dust and 14k gold leaf.

While Winnie doesn't have eyebrows, this cake looks more recognizable with the eyebrows believe it or not. So I made a very light eyebrow using brown gel dye, a thin brush, and a few light strokes.

I had to create her iconic teeth by cutting out a piece of white fondant into a rectangle and making an indent down the center. I just laid that right on top of her bottom lip.
