Hoilday Snow Globe

This is my take on a classic Snow Globe. I call it a "Window Wonderland".

Pick a Jar

I purchased this 6 sided jar from Specialty Bottle. The best jars for this project are short, squatty jars usually filled with jam or some gourmet item. A round one would work fine. Look in your fridge, I'm sure there's one in there!

Pick a Design

Being a graphic designer, I had some fun designing these. Measure the circumference and height of your jar and lay out a design. I chose this vintage deer scene for the outside and an ornate frame for the window.  I thought this cottage scene made a great backdrop for my tree.

I  used a decorative scallop scissor for the top edge of the paper.

At this point, I glitter my scene. Glitter just makes everything look so holiday and sparkly. Have fun but don't overdue it.

Place on Lid

I printed the outside scene on sticker paper, the inside scene on regular paper. I used a small piece of tape to tape the inside scene to the jar.

I peel away a little of the sticker paper and start to wrap the scene around the jar starting in the front with the die cut window and then gently start to peel away the rest of the paper while adhering it to the jar.

Remember, your jar will be upside down. It sits on the lid.

The Innards

Have fun with this. Here are some of the little objects I put in and on my jars. Birds, silk flowers, bottle brush trees, glitter, "snow" and ornate stickers. I just purchased some tiny 3D deer for my next one!

You could also use a real sprig of pine.

Glitter the Lid

I spread some glue on lid and sprinkled some glitter on it. Let it dry.

Build Your Foundation

I found cutting a small styrofoam ball in half and glueing it to the lid, gives your object some height. Here I show two methods. In one I glue moss to the ball and the other I glue cotton to it to create a snowy scene.

Set the Scene

I glued a small glittered cardinal into the moss and a tree into the cotton snow. I sprinkled some sparkly crinkle snow onto both.

Keep Your Cat in Another Room

Here, lulu has to get into and onto everything.

Embellish

Once your scene is set and dry and the lid is twisted on, embellish the outside with rhinestones, beads, more glitter... You might even want to tie a ribbon around the base or top of your jar. Attach a tag to it and give as a gift!

Even though it's not filled with liquid, you could still shake it and the snow will fly around.

Happy Holidays!
