Holiday Glitter Acorns

During autumn in New England the ground is always littered with acorns. I have always thought acorns would make for beautiful home decor, and it seems such a shame to leave them lay on the ground. In this instructable I will show you a quick and easy method to create acorn decorations that can be used during fall or winter holidays.

For this project you will need the following:

• -Acorns
• -Glitter (I prefer the fine glitter)
• -Modge Podge or other type of glue
• -Paint brush for glue
• -tin foil
• -oven
• -cookie sheet

Depending on your location this step can be as easy as stepping outside your front door and pick up all of the acorns you can find. For this project I prefer the acorns to still have their tops on.

Once you have gathered the amount of acorns you would like, place them on a baking sheet covered in tin foil. Then bake the acorns at a low temperature of around 200 degrees for 2-3 hours. This step dries them out and kills any bugs that may be residing in your acorns. If you skip this step you may wind up with maggots crawling in your craft space. Gross!

Once the acorns have baked and cooled they are ready to be coated in glue. With a craft glue such as Mod Podge or even Elmer's white glue, generously cover the bottoms of the acorn in the glue.

Roll the acorns in the glitter until they are fully covered. To removed excess/loose glitter, hold each acorn by the stem above your glitter container and tap the acorn with your hand. Set aside and allow glue to dry completely. You can remove extra glitter from the acorn tops by wiping with a damp cloth during this step too, however, Its much harder to reclaim that glitter.

Once your acorns have dried they are ready to be used as decorations. I like to use the acorns as Christmas tree ornaments or place them in decorative dish for center pieces. I think these would also be lovely for a fall wedding!
