Mixing the Dry
Sift lightly the confectioners sugar into a large bowl. After, add the superfine sugar and the ground almonds.
Mixing the Wet
Mix together in a bowl the vanilla, egg yolk, egg, and lemon juice. Add to large bowl of step 2 and mix well.
Kneading the Marzipan
Sprinkle your cooking surface with confectioners sugar, and lightly knead the mixture until it forms a smooth, thick paste.
Coloring the Marzipan
Divide the marzipan into four equal balls. Add green food coloring to one, mix it in, red to another, mix, yellow, mix, and orange, and mix. You should now have one green, one yellow, one red, and one orange.
Marzipan Fruit: Oranges
Cut up your big orange marzipan ball into 1 inch thick micro-balls. Roll them on your fine grater to make the orange "skin" look. Push cloves, heads out stalks in, one into each ball. You now have marzipan oranges.
Marzipan Fruit: Apples
Grab your red marzipan, split it into 1 inch thick micro-balls. Push 1 clove head first into each ball to make apples. Try not to use all of the red: we will need some later.
Marzipan Fruit: Watermelon
Okay. Grab the rest of the red marzipan, and roll those into equal oval-shaped balls. Pound out a little bit of the green and wrap it around each red ball. There you go! Watermelon! Add black food coloring dots for seeds, if you want.
Marzipan Fruits: Grapes
Grab your green marzipan ball, and split it into 1/4 to 1/2 inch micro-balls. Press clumps of them together in a long, pyramid-like shape. Place head-first cloves into the big section if the grape clump to make the stem. Marzipan grapes! Save some green for corn, though!
Marzipan Fruits: Corn
Grab your leftover green and make vague leaf-like objects. Grab a bit of your yellow, not all, but a bit and make into a corn shape. Roll these on the large grater. Put the corn in the stalks, and you then have marzipan corn.
Marzipan Fruits: Bananas
To make marzipan bananas, break up your remaining yellow marzipan into equal crescent shapes. (Like bananas!) Now, grab your paintbrush, and paint fine brown lines onto the bananas to make them more realistic.
Finish
You now have a set of marzipan fruits! You can package them in mini-muffin cups, and box them to give to friends. Or, you can horde and eat them all yourself. Also, you may see some fruits in the original picture that we did not make. Get creative! Make your own! Happy eating!
