Holmo Lamp IR Controller Hack

111.jpg

I recently bought a Holmo floor lamp from ikea to place on a corner off the living room, i place a led lamp for a mood light.

This lamp comes with a foot switch to turn on and off the light, this is a ideal solution for a walk true but not for my case.

So i had the idea to place a IR controller to turn on and off the light in the comfort of my couch using the TV IR remote to send the signal.

Using some electronic parts we can use the keys of the TV remote that doesn't have any function and use them to turn on and off the lamp.

Using the arduino prototype board we will connect the IR sensor output to digital pin 11, negative to ground and Vcc to positive 5V.

Run the Arduino IDE and open the IR Sniffer sketch, Upload and open the serial monitor.

On the IR remote choose a key that you want to use to turn on an off the lamp and press in front of the IR sensor. A code will appear on the serial monitor, this is the code of the IR remote key, copy this to the Holmo Lamp IR Controller Hack sketch and upload.

Using the schematic i made the PCB, a simple bare bone Arduino, i took out the shield of the IR sensor and place on top of the PCB.

I made a window on the project box and place a red filter from a old VCR to block some of the natural light this will block any interference to the IR sensor.

We will use digital pin 12 as the output to trigger the lamp to turn on and off, and the digital 11 to receive the IR signal.

The MOC 3020 runs with 3 volts so i place a 100 ohms to limit the 5 volt power supply.

This optotransistor will trigger the triac to give the 220v fase to the lamp.

I run the power cables true the inside the shade cover, on the hall side.

The IR receiver will be on the top of the lamp this will give more signal coverage, a place a small amount of hot glue to secure the receiver.

On the base of the lamp a place a power strip to plug power to the power supply and the receiver, to hide away the connections on the base a cut a small cardboard rectangle to cover it up.

Possible Debugging

If you upload and it appears a error like " TKD2 was not declared in this scope " see this video to fix it.

This simple project is a nice upgrade to the Holmo lamp using the TV IR remote to trigger on and off like any other device.
