How to Install a Stainless Steel Splashback to Protect Your Wall
Our friend called us over a while back to help him with his kitchen, he wanted it fully made - from scratch!
I am disappointed I didn't document the whole thing but when I finally thought it would be a good project we were up to the splash back of the kitchen.
This was an interesting project but we managed it and in good time.
To make this you will need the following:
http://www.gsbchem.com.au/products/hardware/maxi/c... Prep solve
https://www.blackwoods.com.au/search/contact-adhes... Bostick contact adhesive
- Stainless steel (from anywhere you can find)
- A wall (you can't really buy these...)
- Scrapers for the contact adhesive, my Dad cut a used credit card.
That's it!
Continue on!
Prep Solve.
Firstly you have to prepare your stainless.
I have put a high contrast on photo 1 so you can see how easy it to miss the fingermarks.
Your hands have oils that will affect the bond of the contact adhesive so it needs to be removed.
Dip a rag into the prep solve tin and wipe down the whole piece of stainless to remove all oils.
From this point onwards Do Not Touch The Metal!!!!!!
Now you can move on...
Contact Adhesive...
To contact adhesive you will have to ring 09 5774 8832 322, it is a Malaysian number...
It is time to apply the contact adhesive.
Make sure you brief your crew about this, it needs to be applied quickly and evenly as possible.
Once you open the tin you have to pour some onto the stainless and some has to be applied to the wall with the toothed things pictured in the intro.
Once it has been poured onto the stainless you have about 5 minutes to spread it around to get the best bond - so be quick!
When the adhesive is spread as even as possible on the wall and the stainless it is time to put the stainless on the wall (do you think it will be in this step?!? move on...)
Stainless, Meet Wall.
Time to introduce the stainless sheet to the wall of your kitchen.
Start by getting enough people to lift the sheet gathered around and ready to lift. (unfortunately this included me so there aren't any photos)
When the person in charge is ready all the people have to lift the front edge of the sheet and lay the sheet flat on the wall where it will stay.
This is fairly easy so don't be too scared!
When the sheet is in place you need to rub hard all over it (with the backing on) with a rag to help the adhesive to set properly.
Now it is in place to stay you can peel off the white backing and admire your work!
When you are looking at the awesome job you just did you can start to clean the adhesive off of your hands, if you really want (NOT RECOMMENDED) you can use a bit of prep solve to dissolve the glue and make it easier to peel off.
Thank you for reading this Instructable, it is my 'ible number 99 and 100 is coming soon!
