If you have a little time during Christmas, why not do a little baking for fido? These cookies make a thoughtful gift for a pet owning friend and they are pretty easy to make.

My blog, Bloggie Stylish, has lots of other cool, pet related tutorials. Come over for a visit!

The Recipe

Light Dough

4 Cups whole wheat flour

1/2 Cup Cornmeal

1 Egg, beaten

1/4 Cup peanut butter

1 1/2 Cups water

Dark Dough

4 Cups whole wheat flour

1/2 Cup cornmeal

1 Egg, beaten

1/4 Cup molasses

1 Tablespoon oil

1 1/2 Cups water

Before You Start Baking

Preheat the oven to 350F and grease the cookie sheets.

Making the Light Dough

In a large mixing bowl, add all the dry ingredients and mix well

Now add all the wet ingredients.

Mix the ingredients well. I like to use my hands, they’re the best tool that you have in the kitchen! The resulting dough will be nice and firm.

Making the Dark Dough

In a different mixing bowl, add the dry ingredients for the dark dough.

Now add all the wet ingredients.

Mix the ingredients well. This batter gets really sticky from the molasses and it’s a real pain to work with. The resulting dough will be softer than the light dough.

Making the Cookie Strips

Pinch off a small piece of dough about the size of a ping pong ball and roll it out into a small log that is about 1/4″ thick and 4 inches long. For the dark dough you will need to flour your cutting board otherwise you will end up with a giant mess.

Shaping the Logs Into Candy Canes

On a floured surface, place a light and dark dough log side-by-side and twist together. Then gently bend the top of the twisted dough so that it looks like a candy cane
