How To: Make the Best Italian Bread

The purpose of this instructable is to teach you perfectly how to get the crispy well baked Italian style bread we all love. It is crispy and has immaculate flavour. This is the best bread to break at any event or family gathering.

Supplies

Gather all the ingredients which include:

-measuring cups. -active dry yeast 2 packets -granulated sugar -salt -vegetable oil - 5-6 cups all-purpose flour -1 egg

You will get your yeast and dissolve it. You will do this by adding ½ cup of warm water, and ½ teaspoon of granulated sugar in a small bowl.

In a large bowl or stand mixer, you will combine 2 cups hot water, 3 tablespoons granulated sugar, salt, and oil. Add 3 cups of flour to the mixture in this large bowl/mixer and mix well. Stir in yeast to a mixture.

Add 2 – 3 cups more flour and mix until well blended. The dough will still be sticky at this point. Leave in bowl, cover with a towel and let rise for 1 hour.

After the rise, if the dough is too sticky to handle, add more flour until it is workable. Only add more flour until it is workable, this can be up to a cup or more. As long as the dough does not dry out.

Divide dough into 2 or 3 depending what you would like. Roll out each piece on a floured surface into the length desired then roll up lengthwise

Put dough on a greased pan. After you will slah the top of the bread in a diagonal way on the top of the dough a couple inches deep with a knife.

Cover the loaves and let it rise for 30 or more minutes

While the loaves are rising put the oven to preheat at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Whisk the egg whites and brush it over the top of the loaves for texture and flavour.

Finally bake the bread for 30 minutes.
