Whether you have stepped into the adventure of coming up with ways to finance a car purchase and want to get rid of the old vehicle or just caught up stranded somewhere with a broken car, there are some things you should know. There are several ways to tow a car. Here advice will be given on towing a car using a truck.

Securing the Vehicle

1. The truck should be backed up to the car. To ensure that the two ends of the chain can be fastened to the car and truck's bumper or frame, sufficient space should be left between the vehicles. The vehicles should be properly and securely parked to ensure that they will not role while the chain is being fastened.

Chain or Rope

2. Instead of a chain, rope can also be used, which should be fastened to the truck's bumper after being rolled around it to prevent it from coming loose when the car is towed. The other end of the rope should be fastened to the car. This way, the bumper will remain intact when towing.

3. The flashers of the car should be turned on if there is still power in the battery. The car should be set into the neutral position. This way, the brakes and power steering can be used as well. However, this might not be possible if the batter is dead.

4. The truck should be started and put in drive. To prevent the car from jerking or the bumper from bending, the truck should be pulled out very slowly at first. This way, a car can be towed off to any nearby auto repair shop with the help of a regular truck, using a rope or a chain, if no tow truck is around.
