In this instructable I will be showing the steps on how to attach a fishing lure to your pole. This will allow you to understand the workings of different parts of the fishing pole as well as help you catch the fish you always have wanted.

Reel

Fishing Line (Type depends on what kind of fish you are trying to catch and their size)

Swivel (optional)

Needle Nose Plyers

A Lure of Your Choice

Release the Bail and Pull Out Line

The first thing you want to do is flip the bail of the fishing reel. This is the round thin metal piece displayed above. Once flipped up the line will no longer have tension on it and you can pull it out. Pull approximately 2 feet of line out of the top eye on the fishing pole in order to get enough slack to play around with and easily make your knots.

Put Line Through Swivel and Begin Knot

Take the end of the line and put it through the hole on the top of the swivel (or straight on the lure if you don't want to use a swivel). Then take the end of the line and put it parallel with the other side of the line creating a U shape. After that take the end of the line and put it across the other portion of line and being to wrap it around the other piece of line moving upward. Leave a hole below near the swivel in order to come back to later. wrap around 5-7 times.

Pull the Line Through and Tighten

After wrapping around the line in a circular motion take the end and go up through that hole previously mentioned near the swivel. When the line is put through there another hole will be created underneath the end of the line and where it came from. Then put the end of the line though that second hole. Pull both the end of the line and the line where the knot begins in order to create tension and tighten.

Cut Excess Line and Add Lure

Cut the remaining end of the line so you will have about a sixteenth or so of an inch of the end of the line to the knot. The knot is now secure and ready to have a lure added. Simply open the swivel similarly to a safety pin. Slip hole of lure into swivel and catch some fish.
