How to Build a Floating Shelf With Invisible Hardware
This is a super simple floating shelf that can be built in 5 minutes. You don’t need to buy expensive or complicated hardware. Sheet rock screws and a few 3/4” boards are all you need.
Watch the video here:
Supplies
For each shelf you need 1 board 6ft long. You can buy 1x6s, 1x8s or 1x10s.
I bought 1x10s and ripped them in half with my table saw.
You also need 2 sheet rock screws for each shelf
Rip Your Boards to the Desired Width
If you bought 1x6s or 1x8s and you are happy with the width,u won’t need to do this
Cut 2 Pieces at 24” and 2 at 8”
Assemble the Shelf
Use wood glue and finishing nails to assemble the shelf. Attach the two 8” boards to the left and right sides of the 24” pieces.
Make Sure Your Shelf Is Square
Stain or Paint It How You Want
Put Two Screws Into Your Wall at the Desired Shelf Height
I recommend putting these into studs in your wall.
Make sure the two shelves are level.
Make sure the two shelves are level.
Set the Shelves on Top of the Screws.
Make marks on the bottom of the top board on the shelf where the screws are touching.
Use a Drill Bit Slightly Smaller Than the Screw Head
Drill two holes on each shelf where you marked it.
Snap the Shelves Onto the Wall
They should easily snap onto the screws and rest securely
