How to Change Oil on a Chevy Silverado
Hi, my name is Austin have you ever had a problem changing your oil? Well, I am here to help. After this presentation, you’ll know how to change your oil successfully! I’m going to show you five steps on how to change the oil on a Chevy Silverado. There are many ways to change the oil on a vehicle, but I’m going to show you the fastest and most efficient way to do it.
Preparing to Drain Oil
First, begin by getting the engine up to operating temperate, this ensures the oil will drain out quickly. Place the 5-gallon drip pan under the engine oil drain plug, which is located at the back of the engine, right in front of the transmission. Next, you’ll want to grab the 3/8-inch ratchet with a 3/8-inch 13-millimeter socket.
Draining Oil
Secondly, take your rachet with the socket and slowly begin loosening the engine oil drain plug. Once you get the plug out, the engine oil should begin draining into the oil pan you placed under the vehicle. Let the oil drain for about 15 minutes.
Removing Old Oil Filter
Thirdly take the filter wrench and begin loosening the engine oil filter. The engine oil filter is located on the left-hand side of the engine oil drain plug. Take the old engine oil filter completely off and throw it in a waste oil barrel.
Putting the New Engine Oil Filter in and Drain Plug Back Into the Oil Pan
Fourthly begin by grabbing the new engine oil filter and screwing it back on the oil filter housing (the oil filter should only be hand-tightened). Then put the engine oil drain plug back into the engine oil pan. Tighten the drain plug as tight as possible with the rachet and socket.
Refilling Engine With Oil
Fifthly pop the hood on the truck, open the hood up all the way. Take the oil fill cap off and dump 10 quarts of 15w-40 heavy-duty diesel engine oil in. Once this is done start the engine and let run for about a minute. Shut the engine off and re-check to make sure the oil on the dipstick is still in full range then you're all set!
