How to Change a Air Filter
Today I will be giving instructions on how to change an engine air filter on a 2010 Chevy 2500HD. The engine air filter plays a major role in keeping contaminants and debris from entering the engine. To make sure the air filter is always fresh and not full of debris it should be checked with every oil change. With that said it should be replaced every 15,000 miles depending on driving conditions.
Supplies
The supplies needed to do this job will be a new air filter, phillip or flathead screwdriver. In order to get a new filter, stop at an auto parts store ex. Napa, Auto Zone, O’Reilly’s. The other option is going to a chevy dealership to get oem parts. For the screwdriver will need to be a larger screwdriver ex. #3 phillips or ¼ or bigger flathead.
Step 1: Lifting the Hood
In order to pop the hood, will have to locate the hood release. Which will be on the driver side below the emergency brake pedal. Once found pull the release outwards towards the seat. The hood if released will make a clunk sound. Once hearing that sound walk around to the front of the vehicle. The latch will be at the center of the vehicle in between of the hood and grill. In order to reach the latch, lift the hood slightly. After lifting the hood reach your hand under hood to find latch. The after locating move latch to the right, will hear a pop or click sound. Then lift the hood.
Step 2: Locate the Air Box and Remove the Cover
The second step is to locate the air filter box and remove cover for filter. The air filter box will be on the left side of the engine, in front of the battery on the left side. Once located remove phiilip/flat headed screw. To do that either use a larger phillip or flathead screwdriver. Once removed grab cover firmly on each side and pull towards yourself. There are 3 plastic latches on opposite side of screw. Once latches are out of slots, lift the cover and move out of the way.
Step 3: Removing Filter and Installing New Filter
Since the cover is removed. Grab ahold of the filter and gently pull straight outwards. If the filter doesn’t move, gently move the filter up and down, side to side to wiggle the filter out. Once filter is out throw the filter in the garbage. Now grab new filter and install the new one the same way the old filter was removed. Once installed put the cover back on making sure the 3 plastic latches are in the slots and hooked. After that install screw and tighten to snug. Now close the hood. The filter has successfully been replaced.
