How to Crochet a Tiny Teddy Bear

This crochet pattern is simple but it uses #10 crochet thread which can be difficult for beginners. It is to make a tiny teddy bear of about 2 inches tall. This little guys is perfect for doll houses or as gifts or as a new little friend for yourself. If you are a veteran crocheter this Teddy will not take long,and if you are a beginner this is the perfect pattern to challenge yourself with. The stitches are simple and repetitive but the embroidery and assembly can frustrate anyone so practice your deep breathing.

The pattern calls for these materials:

• #10 Crochet Thread. I used Artiste 100% Mercerized Egyptian Cotton in 126 Hemp. Hobby Lobby has a lot of different colors of this brand.
• Scissors
• Black Embroidery Thread
• Sewing Needle
• 1.50 mm (#7) Crochet Hook
• Stuffing
• Small Safety Pin

The abbreviations used in this patter are as followed:

• Sc for Single Crochet
• Sc2tog for Single Crochet Two Stitches Together
• St (or Sts) for Stitch or Stitches
• The numbers in the () at the end of each round are the number of stitches you should have at that point.

Head

1. Magic circle 6 (6)

2. 2 Sc in each stitch around (12)

3. (1 Sc, 2 Sc in next stitch) around. (18)

4. (1 Sc in next 2 Sts, 2 Sc in next St) around (24)

5. (1 Sc in next 3 Sts, 2 Sc in next St) around (30)

6-9. Sc around (30)

10. (1 Sc in next 3 Sts, Sc2tog in next St) around (24)

11. (1 Sc in next 2 Sts, Sc2tog in next St) around (18)

13. Stuff.

12. (1 Sc in next St, Sc2tog in next St) around (12) Be careful not to crochet part of the stuffing from found 13.

14. Pull the thread through the loop on your hook to make a knot. Then, using your hook, weave the thread through the remaining stitches; pull tight to close the gap, and knot off leaving a long tail to sew with later.

Body

21. Pull the thread through the loop on your hook to make a knot. Then, using your hook, weave the thread through the remaining stitches; pull tight to close the gap, and knot off leaving a long tail to sew with later.

The body should look something like a pear when it is finished. The smaller part is the part you will attach to the head.

Legs. Make two of these.

3. (1 Sc, 2 Sc in next stitch) around. (18)

4-5. Sc around (18)

6. (1 Sc in next 2 Sts, Sc2tog in next St) 4 times, Sc2tog the last two stitches.

7-11. Sc around.

Stuff the feet more firmly than the legs and shape the piece with your finders to achieve a boot-like look to it. Close the leg the same way you closed the head and body, leaving a tail to sew with later.

Arms. Make two of these.

1. Magic circle (6)

2. 2 Sc in each stitch around (12)

3-4. Sc around (12)

4. (Sc2tog, Sc in next 4) twice (10)

5-11. Sc around.

Stuff the "hands" more firmly than the arms. Close off using the same method as before. Leave a tail to sew with.

Muzzle

1. Magic circle (6)

2-3. (1 Sc, 2 Sc in next) around. (13)

4. Sc around. (13)

Weave the end of the thread into the muzzle but do not tighten it. If your muzzle is two tight, flip it inside out and back out again.

All that needs to be done for the ears is to make a magic circle with 8 instead of 6 stitches. Make the stitches tight as you crochet so when you pull it into a circle the stitches will match better.

First, sew the ears on at desired places on his head. To make sure they were secure, I went through the middle hole with the thread a couple of time.

hand sew using the extra tail of the head onto the smallest part of the body.

Next, sew the legs and the arms onto the body using the tails attached. Play around with placement with a safety pin. This may include making him wave, stand, etc. When you are certain, sew.

Sew the muzzle onto the face, placing it a little below the center. When you get almost done sewing, stuff it with a small amount of stuffing and finish the sew.

Embroider the eyes onto the face. I made them circular/oval only slightly above the muzzle.

Add other details as desired. This may include eye brows, thumbs, and whatever else you'd like to add.
