How to Crochet a Trendy Beanie (for Beginners!)

I decided to make my instructable about crocheting because I feel comfortable teaching it and I want to represent my skills on how I do what I do.

This tutorial is for making a white beanie.

This project takes about 1 day to make for absolute beginners, 5 hours for intermediates, and maybe less than 3 hours for masters.

This beanie's size fits the average women's head (19 inch circumference)

Another note: I am using the chain method for starting, but if you prefer the magic circle method, feel free to do so!

• Yarn (any color)
• Crochet Hook (I used 5.5mm)
• Scissors
• A nice place to sit

With your yarn, creating a starting knot.

Make sure you can adjust the loop with the cut-end of the string.

Put the hook through the chain. Next yarn over and pull it through the loop using the hook. There should be 1 chain under your hook.

With your chain of 4, insert the loop inside the first chain made.

Insert the last loop connected to your hook, then wrap the yarn around and insert the hook into the circle.

By the end of the first row, you should have 10 double crochets in your circle. Next, you need to connect the row by putting the hook through the last 2 chains (like you are about to make a chain). Once you have your chain of 2, insert 2 double crochets into the first stitch next to the chain you made. Sounds a little over whelming, but once you get the hang of it, it'll be easy!

Insert 2 double crochets in the next 19 stitches until the last one.

Once you complete the second row, you should have 20 double crochets. Connect both ends and chain 2.

Next, insert 2 double crochets in the next stitch, and ONE double crochet in the next stitch.

Repeat this pattern for the next 29 stitches until the end of the row.

Once you complete the third row, you should have 30 double crochets. Connect the ends together and chain 2.

Next, insert 2 double crochets in the next stitch and then one double crochet IN THE NEXT TWO STITCHES.

Repeat this for 39 more stitches.

Once you complete the third row, you should have 40 double crochets. Tie the ends together and chain 2.

Next, insert 2 double crochets in the next stitch and then one double crochet IN THE NEXT THREE STITCHES.

Repeat this for 49 more stitches.

Once you complete the third row, you should have 60 double crochets. Tie the ends together and chain 2.

Next, insert 2 double crochets in the next stitch and then one double crochet IN THE NEXT FOUR STITCHES.

Repeat this for 59 more stitches.

Woo Hoo! You're almost done! This step should be the easiest of them all. This time, instead of adding double crochet after the chain 2, don't do it.

Chain 2 and insert ONE double crochet in each stitch in that row.

Repeat this step for rows 7-14, or until your desired length.

Fasting off means to end the row. Here's how to end row 14/or your hat.

Remove the hook out of the yarn, and pull the loop until the string is no longer a loop.
