How to Deer Hunt

instructable.jpg

Hello, this is my first instructables and I will be making more kind of hunting instructables so put in the comments which one I should do next.

Step 1: Guns

Your most valuable and most expensive part of deer hunting is going to be your gun.You can spend a lot of money on them, or just a little.Below I have a cheap rifle and shotgun for deer hunting.Shotguns are good for dog hunting, but if you use the right type of ammo they can be just as deadly as a rifle.

The first picture I have is a Savage Axis 243 rifle. These are good because

1.They don't kick that hard

2.They can shoot up to 400 yards.

3.Go longer than shotguns.

The second picture I have is a Remington 870 Express Super Magnum. These are good because

1.They are light-weight

2.Can fire different types of ammo

3.Are generally cheap and easy to find

Both of these guns are gonna cost about 200-400 dollars.

Step 2: Ammo

You cant hunt a deer without ammo.I have 2 pictures that are about ammo.

First I have a 243 bullet, these are for the rifle and once they get a good spin on them they can be very lethal.

Second I have a 12 gauge slug, when fired out of a smoothbore barrel, these spin by themselves and are basically a flying 1 oz ball of lead. These can go just as far as a rifle if fired right.

Step 3:Blinds

Blinds can help you hide from a deer, and are in my opinion better than just finding a log and sitting on it to hunt in the woods.

Above I have a picture of a treestand, these go on tress with chains or a rope. This can hide your scent better than a ground blind, but are more dangerous because there is the possibility of falling out, or the tree falling down.

Many bowhunters use treestands to aim better than in a groundblind, but with a gun your best bet is going to be using a groundblind.

Step 4: Decoys

You don't really need a decoy, but if you are using one the best time would be to use it in the middle of the rut, or the seeking phase. The bucks are looking for a female to mate with and so a decoy can bring a buck out quicker. You can buy a good doe decoy for under 200 dollars if you look around on different websites.

Step 5: Calls

Calls can be very lethal and helpful to the hunter. They can bring out a nocturnal buck,or bring in a whole crowd of deer.Above I have 2 different kinds of calls and will tell you about them.

The first one is a basic call that will make a grunt noise, this will attract a male deer because it imitates the grunt sound of a female deer wanting to mate.

The second I have is a antlers call that you clash together to make the sound of a deer hitting a tree. This will bring out bucks to fight the other male deer, leaving you a clear shot.
