How to Draw a Manticore

Have you always wanted to improve your art by making cartoon drawings? Well I think that this step-by-step will help you do just that! We will be drawing a Manticore! Have fun, and let's get started!

First of all, at the start of a drawing you would have to know where they’re standing and what pose they should have! So let’s start by drawing one huge circle for the head, semi circles for the lion ears, an oval for the body and more ovals for the legs! (Tip: Do it lightly)

Second, with your pencil, lightly draw the fluffy mane around the big circle that is the head!, (basically draw a spiky mane with more curves!) Next draw the dragon wings, first draw a crooked line that looks like a wing, then draw three lines under that, evenly spaced. Lastly draw a curved line connecting to the three lines. Then let’s draw the scorpion tail! Draw five ovals, The first oval should be medium sized, then make the other four smaller and smaller. At the end draw a big oval and a small triangle at the tip of the oval!

Alright! You're now in the outlining stage! Let’s start with the head! First draw a half heart shape (the top half) then draw a half oval underneath it! (bottom half of the oval) Remember to connect them! Now outline the lion’s mane, just draw over the sketch marks! Lastly use your eraser to erase the sketch marks from the head, we will draw the details later!

Draw over the wings sketch you made with pressing the pencil more onto the paper, now if you follow my lead we will now do the legs! Draw the first leg, if you would like you can use some reference of a real lion’s paw! Now do that with the rest of the legs.

Alright! Erase the lines of where the body and legs are, and now for the scorpion tail! Outline the circle of the scorpion tail, then draw the big tip of the tail you sketched, when you are done, erase the sketch lines from the tail!

Let’s start with the lion’s face! Start with the snout, draw a black upside down triangle for the nose at the bottom of that triangle, draw two curves that look like a smile; :) now draw three dots just a little above the smile. Now for eyes! Draw almond shaped eyes then draw them black with white highlights. Now grab your pencil crayons and start coloring your masterpiece!
