How to Draw an Eye: Introduction

I started to draw since before I could read. Drawing has always been part of my life. Over many years of practice, I have advanced my skills past the point of just a few years ago. Like you, I was a beginner or I want to get better, hoping to be a better artist motivated me and will motivate you. This drawing exercise is normal difficulty for beginners

First you will need these materials:

0.7 lead pencil

0.9 lead pencil

White paper (or drawing paper)

Eraser

A flat surface to have everything set on

Your finger

Starting with the 0.9 lead pencil draw a low dome shape like a small hill.

Make an under-dome and on the right side of both domes, connect in the middle.

The inner left, close the ends with an egg shaped point

Make a circle (about quarter size) on the inside of the eye and have no lines on the outside of the eye shape.

Now draw a drawn out swerve on the left inside of the eye about a milimeter in, and a line curved away from the iris (circle).

Draw an equally spaced 3x3 grid inside of the quarter sized iris (circe).

In the center of the 3x3 grid, draw a circle.

Color the smaller circle in completely and erase the 3x3 grid lines.

Now, make a cartoon sun flare around the inner circle.

Shade in the sun flare almost as dark as the pupil (inner circle).

Make a larger sun flare around the smaller flare.

Shade in the larger sun flare lightly.

Now, very lightly shade the rest of the iris (circle), do not shade outside the circle.

Use your finger to blend the center of the eye.

Darken the pupil (smaller circle) and shade it in darker.

Erase any additional and unwanted smudges on the outer lines, including the rest of the eyeball and on the outside of the eye.

Lightly shade the left-most area and the right-most area of the eyes drawn in step 5.

Use your finger to blend the outer ends and erase any additional and unwanted smudges on the outside of the eye.

On the upper dome on the outside make small upward curves starting from the most-right corner and make each smaller as you move to the left corner of the eye.

Stop about a centimeter from the end of the left-most side and the smallest lashes should be on the left side.

Now take the 0.7 lead pencil and on the upper dome on the outside make small upward curves starting from the most-right corner and make each smaller as you move to the left corner of the eye.

Fill in the empty areas, but not too much to the point where you can't see some of the white paper.

With the 0.9 lead pencil, draw on the lower dome on the outside make small downward curves starting from the most-right corner and make each smaller as you move to the left corner of the eye.

The bottom eye-lashes are about half the size of your top lashes, so make the bottom ones smaller than what you did on the top.

Stop about a centimeter away from the left-most corner of the eye and the smallest lashes should be on the left side.

Get the 0.7 lead pencil and on the lower dome on the outside make small downward curves starting from the most-right corner and make each smaller as you move to the left corner of the eye. Fill in the empty areas, but not too much to the point where you can't see some of the white paper.

Take the 0.9 lead pencil and draw a line about a centimeter above the top eye lid at a 45 degree angle (having the left side being the lowest point and the right end being higher than the left side).

Draw another line that is slightly curved, making a 45 degree in the opposite way.

Both lines meet at the same distance of the right-most eye.

Draw a similar angle connecting to the angle that you just made, but at a downward slope ending about a centimeter past the right-most corner of the eye.

On the larger angle, close the ends with a slight curve facing away from the eye.

Erase any extra lines inside and outside of the eyebrow.

Draw short lines inside of the eyebrow, and continue throughout the entire eyebrow.

This is what it should look like when you are done with the whole eyebrow.

Take the 0.7 lead pencil and fill in some areas, but make sure NOT to fill in the entire eyebrow so that you can't see some of the white paper.

Use your finger to blend the area of the eyebrow and erase any additional shading outside of the eyebrow.

Draw small extended hairs (lines) on the outside left-most side of the eyebrow.
