How to Easily Model a Vase | SelfCAD
Welcome to the next SelfCAD tutorial. This time let me show you another interesting tool called Revolve. We will use it to model a simple vase.
Launch SelfCAD editor and create a new project!
Supplies
- SelfCAD - an online 3D modeling software
- imagination - your vase can have various shapes and decorations.
Draw a Profile
Choose the 3D Sketch tool and use Spline Sketch to draw a vase shape. First, check the Minimum step size. Then draw half of the vase.
Add Thickness to Your Profile
Select your profile and use Add thickness.
Correct the Shape
With Edge selection mode you can select unnecessary edges and delete them. Then select the whole profile and use Line Sketch (3D Sketch) to correct it. New lines should be added to the first object.
Transform the Object
Rotate the profile and move it like in the pictures.
Use Revolve
You can find Revolve in Tools drop-down list or just click T+V on your keyboard. Select profile and use the tool. Click the Revolve Around Edge option and choose the vertical edge. Increase the number of segments to make the object smoother.
The vase is ready. Now we can decorate it - for example, add handles.
Draw a Handle
Use 3D Sketch again. Change the plane to Front/Back and turn off everything in Precision Settings. Draw shape of the handle. Deselect the last profile and draw a circle.
Model a Handle
Select first the circle, then the handle profile and use Follow Path (T+F).
Move the Handle
Move the handle if necessary. Remember its X coordinate.
Create Second Handle
Use Mirror (U+I). Select Create Copy option then choose Left side. Move the new object to the remembered X position, but with negative value.
Use Union
Delete all profiles.
Select all three objects and use Union (B+U).
You can use Sculpting to draw some patterns on the vase.
