How to FIX Slow Moving or Seized Windshield Wipers
Watch the video
Remove the Windshield Wipers
Remove the windshield wipers by removing one bolt at the bottom and pull it right off the threads
Loosen the Mechanism
Take out the bolts holding in the whole mechanism and you should be able to move it around a little bit.
Pry Off the Arms
Use a pickling fork to pry off the two arms being careful not to shatter the windshield.
Take Out the Windshield Wipers Mechanism
It takes a lot of patience and wiggling to take out the mechanism but if you get in the right position it will come out. Then you can take out the power plug.
Take Off the Arm
To take off the arm put oil on it and wiggle it off.
Cleaning
First, take a file to the post to take off the big crud and grit. Then take sandpaper and sand the post and the inside of the arm. If you put the arm back on it should be able to move like is supposed to.
Repairing the Broken Arm
If you break the arms on the mechanism (like we did) here is how to fix it. Mark where to drill the holes with a nail and drill out holes on both sides. Grind the head of a bolt off so it is a consistent diameter. Then tap one of the holes and thread in the bolt you just ground. Put J-B Weld on the side you ground and slide the two together. You can wrap tape around the joint to keep to glue contained.
Reassemble
With pliers squeeze the arms back together and wiggle the whole mechanism back into place and bolt it down.
Finished
Now just button every thing back together and it should move just like how it used to!!
