How to Guide on Changing the Golf Hole on a Green...
Changing the hole on a golf course is an overlooked step on keeping the greens pure. So having an instructable on this task seemed important to me.
Supplies
- Cup setter
- Cup puller
- Cup cutter
- Bucket
- Knife
- Little bit of extra dirt
For everything you need use:

Getting Started
- First of grab your cup cutter and your bucket with extra dirt inside incase you need it
- Then you want to figure out where on the green you want to put the new hole (front, middle, back) depending on where the flag is now. Ex, If the flag is at the front, move to the middle, if middle move back, if back move front.
Cutting New Hole
- Now that you know what area you want to put the new hole, find a spot where there is minimal ball marks or old hole plugs
- To actually cut the hole, put your cup cutter to the ground, push down and twist back and forth while trying to keep it perpendicular to the ground.
Continue Cutting
- You won’t be able to get it all in one try to when you get about halfway to the black line pull it out and put the plug you just pulled in the bucket you should have
- To get the plug out, lift up on the handle that is on the cutter
- Now go back to the hole and finish cutting it till you get to the black line.
Getting the Cup Out
- You now have your fresh hole cut and just have to finish closing up the old hole
- In the old hole there is the actual cup
- To get that out, put the hole puller in,find where it locks into the cup, and pull up
Filling in Old Hole
- Now with your old empty hole put the cup cutter in the hole that should be half full of dirt and pull up on the handle, leaving the dirt in there
- Now grab the plug in your bucket and place it in the hole
Finishing the Old Hole
- Step on it
- It will most likely not be at the perfect height so you will have to make small adjustments to get it perfectly flush with the green
- You will either have to take it out again and put more dirt in or take it out and take dirt out
- It’s very important to get it perfectly level with the green to give it the best opportunity to heal up fast
Finishing Up New Hole
- Not quite done yet. with the cup you pulled from the old hole, put it in the new hole
- Place it first in the hole with your hand then grab your cup setter
- Place it on the hole and step on it till the cup setter won’t let you go anymore
- This will get it to the right depth
Complete
Finally, place the flag back in the new hole and you are done
