How to Make Apple Halwa

Halwa is a dense sweet confection served as dessert in India. Here I have tried my hands on making halwa with apples. The apple halwa has a wonderful taste that you will love it

Ingredients

  • Two Apples
  • Handful of Cashew nuts
  • 5 to 6 Cardamom pods
  • One cup of Sugar
  • About half a cup of cow's ghee

Peel and Cut Apples

  • Peel the apple skin and cut into pieces
  • Remove seeds and core from the apple pieces
  • The cut pieces weighed slightly more than 250 grams

Make Apple Paste

  • Transfer the apple pieces to a mixer grinder and grind them to a fine paste. Do not add any water.

Stir-fry Cashew Nuts in Ghee

  • Break the cashew nuts into small pieces
  • In a small frying pan add a drop of ghee and stir-fry the cashew nuts to golden brown
  • Remove from pan and keep aside

Make Sugar Powder

  • Add one cup of sugar to a mixer grinder and grind to a fine powder

Make Cardamom Powder

  • Break open the cardamom pods and remove the seeds
  • Using a mortar and pestle grind the cardamom seeds into fine powder

Preparation Step 1

  • Keep a flat bottomed frying pan over low heat and add the apple paste to the pan
  • Add about 2 teaspoons of ghee and stir continuously till water content from apple paste evaporates and ghee oozes out from sides

Preparation Step 2

  • Add the powdered sugar to apple paste in the pan and mix well
  • Add teaspoon of ghee at intervals and stir continuously
  • First the sugar will melt and form a semi liquid mix with apple paste
  • Keep on low flame and stir continuously so that the mix will not stick to the pan
  • After some time you will notice that the mix started coming out cleanly from the pan and little amount ghee is also expelled from the dish

  • Now add the cardamom seed powder and fried cashew nuts to the Halwa and mix well
  • Put off the flame and transfer the Halwa to another bowl

The delicious Apple Halwa can be served as Dessert. The Halwa made with 2 apples will serve about 2 to 3 people.
