Ingredients
- Two Apples
- Handful of Cashew nuts
- 5 to 6 Cardamom pods
- One cup of Sugar
- About half a cup of cow's ghee
Peel and Cut Apples
- Peel the apple skin and cut into pieces
- Remove seeds and core from the apple pieces
- The cut pieces weighed slightly more than 250 grams
Make Apple Paste
- Transfer the apple pieces to a mixer grinder and grind them to a fine paste. Do not add any water.
Stir-fry Cashew Nuts in Ghee
- Break the cashew nuts into small pieces
- In a small frying pan add a drop of ghee and stir-fry the cashew nuts to golden brown
- Remove from pan and keep aside
Make Sugar Powder
- Add one cup of sugar to a mixer grinder and grind to a fine powder
Make Cardamom Powder
- Break open the cardamom pods and remove the seeds
- Using a mortar and pestle grind the cardamom seeds into fine powder
Preparation Step 1
- Keep a flat bottomed frying pan over low heat and add the apple paste to the pan
- Add about 2 teaspoons of ghee and stir continuously till water content from apple paste evaporates and ghee oozes out from sides
Preparation Step 2
- Add the powdered sugar to apple paste in the pan and mix well
- Add teaspoon of ghee at intervals and stir continuously
- First the sugar will melt and form a semi liquid mix with apple paste
- Keep on low flame and stir continuously so that the mix will not stick to the pan
- After some time you will notice that the mix started coming out cleanly from the pan and little amount ghee is also expelled from the dish
- Now add the cardamom seed powder and fried cashew nuts to the Halwa and mix well
- Put off the flame and transfer the Halwa to another bowl
The delicious Apple Halwa can be served as Dessert. The Halwa made with 2 apples will serve about 2 to 3 people.
