How to Make Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Chocolate covered strawberries are a delicious and easy to make dessert. These are great to share with friends and family or to have to yourself (they also make a great valentines day gift). Depending on the quantity of strawberries you are making, this recipe can take as little as 20 minutes!
Supplies
Ingredients
- Strawberries (the amount depends on how many you plan on making )
- Chocolate (the best chocolate for this is baker's chocolate, but semi sweet will work too)
- Toppings (topping can be anything you desire, recommended toppings are sprinkles; crushed candies, pretles, or cookies; coconut shavings, and white chocolate)
Supplies
- Parchment paper
- Baking sheet
- Pot
- Heat safe glass bowl
- Spoon (if you plan on topping with white chocolate)
- Spatula
Wash Strawberries
Take your strawberries and wash them using only water.
Prepping Supplies
Cut your parchment paper so it completely covers your baking sheet and set to the side. To set up your double boiler (used to melt chocolate) take your pot and fill with about an inch of water, heat this water on the stove to a slow simmer. Set the heat safe glass bowl on top of the pot, so that the bottom of the bowl sits just above the surface of the water. Leave the boiler on low heat.
Melting Chocolate
Open your bag of chocolate and add it to the bowl of the double boiler, constantly stir the chocolate with a spatula until melted. When melted it should be smooth and silky. Continue to occasionally stir once melted.
Dipping Strawberries
Take one washed strawberry and hold it by the leaves, dip it into the melted chocolate and allow excess chocolate to run off back into the bowl. Place the strawberry on the parchment paper to cool. Repeat this step until all strawberries are covered. You can hold the strawberry with your hands or use a fork, I find a fork to be easier.
Adding Toppings (Optional)
If you plan on adding toppings to your strawberries either sprinkle them on or dip the strawberry in the topping. Topping should be added before the chocolate has hardened.
Adding White Chocolate (Optional)
If adding white chocolate, melt the chocolate in another double boiler, or in the microwave using 30 second intervals and stirring between intervals (DO NOT MICROWAVE METAL SPOON). Using a spoon, scoop the chocolate and drizzle it over the already dipped strawberries. The strawberries should be semi cooled before this step.
Cooling, Final Step
Once all strawberries are dipped, topped (if desired), and placed on parchment paper, allow to cool at room temperature for 20-30 minutes, and enjoy!
