How to Make Dalgona or Whipped Coffee
Dalgona Coffee is the newest coffee trend! This delicious recipe combines the taste of coffee with an exciting new texture.
Safety Warning: This recipe requires hot water and electrical kitchen appliances. Always use caution.
Supplies
Ingredients: Instant Coffee, Granulated Sugar, Hot Water, Your Choice of Milk
Supplies: Hand Mixer, Tablespoon, Small Mixing Bowl (about 1 liter or 5-10 cup capacity)
Assemble Ingredients
You will need instant coffee, granulated sugar, and hot water for this recipe. At the end, you can choose to add in your favorite type of milk or milk alternative.
Measure and Add Instant Coffee
Measure 2 tablespoons of instant coffee for one serving, or scale up according to your desired yield. Add to a small mixing bowl.
Measure and Add Sugar
Add in 2 tablespoons of sugar. Just like the earlier step, adjust if you would like more than one serving.
Measure and Add Hot Water
Measure 2 tablespoons of hot water and add in with the dry ingredients. Tip: If the water is not hot enough, you will not be able to achieve a whipped texture!
Mix Together
Using a hand mixer on low to medium speed, mix all ingredients together to achieve desired texture.
Tip: Using only one beater will cut down on the mess!
Keep Mixing!
Depending on the amount of coffee you are making, mixing make take up to 15 minutes. Don't give up! Mixing one serving takes 7-10 minutes on average.
This is what the coffee looks like after about 5 minutes of mixing.
Grab a Glass and Add Milk
Add your choice of milk or milk alternative and add to a glass. I used coconut milk in this recipe.
Add Ice
Add your desired amount of ice to the glass.
Add in Your Coffee and Enjoy!
Spoon the whipped coffee in to your glass and enjoy!
Troubleshooting
Problem: Mixture not thickening up. Solution: Use hot or boiling water, or try using a higher speed setting on hand mixer.
Problem: Grainy coffee. Solution: Instant coffee is necessary for this recipe. Using coffee grounds, K-Cups, or other mixes will not produce the desired result.
Problem: I don't have a hand mixer. Solution: Although not recommended, it is possible to produce a similar result by using a whisk or spoon. However, this will take much longer.
