Let's Make Focaccia Buns

These focaccia buns are a fantastic addition to soup meals or eaten on their own.

We paired the buns with How to make a Fish Risotto

Let's begin.

Ingredients

For the Focaccia buns you will need:

  • 250 ml warm water
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Sugar
  • 450 g Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Tandaco yeast

For the (optional) topping you will:

  • Salt granules
  • Fresh Rosemary leaves
  • Olive oil

Mix the Dry

Stir together the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.

Stir in the Wet

Add the warm water and olive oil and using your hands mix it until it forms a soft dough.

Knead That Dough!

After the dough ball has formed, tip it out onto a floured surface and knead well for about 10-15 minutes, until the dough is very smooth.

Cut the dough into 9-10 pieces, then ball up and flatten each one until they are about 8 cm in diameter, and about 1 cm thick. Remember that they will double in height once risen.

Rising

Leave the buns in a warm place until well risen and looking lovely.

Over the Top

You will need:

-1 teaspoon of salt crystals

-1 sprig of fresh rosemary

-1 tablespoon of olive oil

Holes and Rosemary

Once the buns have risen poke holes in them and lightly baste with olive oil. Place a few rosemary leaves onto each bun along with a little salt. Place salt sparingly as you don't want it too salty!

Baking

Bake the buns in a 180C (360F) oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
