This instructable which teaches you how to make interlocking cubes however this instructable shows you how to make a 2 * 2 interlocking cube.

Supplies

  • A Tinkercad Account
  • Preferably a Laptop

Making the Basic Cube Design

Just drag a cube into the workplane.

Change the Dimensions

Change the Height, Length and Breadth all to 1.8 cms which means 18 mm. (The Image shows only the height being changed but you have to change every perimeter e.i. length and breadth as well.)

Making the Hole in the Cube

So in this step you have to make the holes in the cube for making it an interlocking cube. So for this you have to take a cube and make the height and breadth 14 mm. You also have an option to change the length but that is not required.

Next you have to put the cube perfectly 2 mm above the work plane and 2mm away from each side of the cube as shown in the second picture.

The last part of this step is to select both 3D Shapes and group them and shown in the third image.

Make the Other 4 Faces

This time make the same hole shape but make the height 30 mm and the breadth and length 14 mm. Then place it in the exact same position as image 2.

Next make the second whole box with length as 30mm and height and breadth as 14mm and follow the similar steps shown above of placing it in the center and grouping it. (Remember to raise the shape by 2 mm)

Making 4 More Copies of the Cube

Screenshot 2021-10-25 113218.jpg

Duplicate the same shape 4 times and place them next to each other at a distance of 4 mm like shown in the image above. Group them as well.

Making a Cube Out of the Cubes

Duplicate the 4 cubes and place it 4mm above the other set of cubes. Now go ahead and ungroup all the cubes sets which is the lower set and upper set.

For 3D Printing this Structure you well need supports which I will show you how to get using Cura Ultimaker Slicer.

So download your project onto your project and open it in Cura.

Then Go and Change the Support Settings in the Print Setting Section

Click on the checkbox for supports and go ahead slice your model to get the supports structures made!
