How to Make Melting Crayon Art

For this project, I will show you how to make a beautiful piece of art using crayons and a canvas that can be displayed on your wall in your room or office. This project will bring you lots of joy. The melting of crayons creates a beautiful effect when displayed and very easy to make.

For this project, you will need:

-Scissors

-Hair Dryer

-Painters Tape or Scotch Tape (nothing too sticky)

-Crayons

-Media (For this project I used canvas, you may also use a panel or cardstock)

Draw something in the center or bottom of your canvas that sparks joy, this step is not necessary but it will make your piece stand out and more beautiful.

I have drawn a simple heart because to me a heart represents love and joy.

Remember to draw something simple and not something as detailed and tidious.

Take small pieces of tape and cover your drawing with it, layering it and outlining your drawing.

Put on as many layers as you'd like, this step prevents the melted crayon from getting into your focus drawing.

On this step, you will pick out all your favorite colors and cut 1" from the tip. For bigger canvas or paper, double the crayon size.

Next peel off the label, make sure they are all close to the same size.

Also make sure you have enough crayons to fill the top of your canvas.

Lineup your crayons before gluing to make sure you have enough.

Carefully apply a small amount of hot glue to canvas, not directly onto the crayon.

Place crayon down, press for one second and move on to the next crayon.

I have lined up the crayons a little bit apart from each other but it will also work when crayons are touching each other for a greater effect.

Let dry for 5 minutes.

This part is messy, apply a table cloth or newspaper on any surface to prevent damages.

There will be splatter and drips of crayon that dry quickly and possibly stain.

Stand your canvas up in a slight angle to allow melted crayon to slide down. You may also lean it against something to avoid your hand from getting burnt.

Turn up your hair dryer to high heat and keep it 2" away from the canvas, not further or it will cause splatter.

Begin melting your crayons.

Melt as much as you'd like or until you are satisfied with the spreading of colors.

Allow 20 minutes to dry, up to 1 Hour for bigger pieces.

Once your piece is dry, its time to peel the tape off.

Slowly peel the tape off. Be careful, the crayon may crack.

Don't worry if some of the crayons have seeped into your drawing.

You have now completed a Melted Crayon Art piece.

You may leave your piece as is or you may clean it up a little as I did.

This Step is not necessary.

Just apply a small amount of acrylic paint of your choice of color to your drawing.
