How to Make Oreo Dessert (Chocolate Ribbon)

This recipe will take you step-by-step on how to make Oreo dessert, or what I call chocolate ribbon. It is important to follow these instructions in this order to make this amazing treat. A novice to the kitchen can make this tasty recipe. Preparation time for this dessert will be 40 minutes. Total time this dessert will take start to finish is 5 hours. This decadent dessert will sure to be a hit at any get together, party, or just to have for a delicious snack!

Gather Ingredients

For this recipe you will need:

  • 35 Oreo cookies
  • 6 T butter
  • 8 oz softened cream cheese
  • 1/4 C sugar
  • 2 T milk
  • 8 oz Cool whip
  • 3 C milk
  • 2 packages of chocolate instant pudding
  • 1 Chocolate bar

Other items you may need, include:

  • 9x13 pan
  • Rolling pin
  • Gallon freezer bag
  • Towel
  • Large bowl
  • Small bowl
  • Wire whisk
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Handheld Mixer
  • Spoon
  • Spatula
  • Cheese grater

Make the Crust

  1. Crush the 35 Oreo cookies in a gallon freezer bag with a rolling pin
    TIP: Cover the freezer bag with a hand towel so the bag doesn't break
  2. Melt the 6 T of butter completely in the microwave in a small bowl
    WARNING: The dish will be hot when you take it out of the microwave
  3. Combine the crushed cookies and butter in the 9x13 pan

  4. Cover the entire bottom of the ban with cookie/butter mixture

  5. Refrigerate the crust for 15 minutes

Make the First Layer

  1. Beat cream cheese, 2 T milk, and sugar in a large bowl until smooth
    TIP: If the cream cheese is still hard, use a handheld mixer

  2. Stir in half of the Cool whip (4 oz)

  3. Take the crust out of the refrigerator

  4. Spread the Cool whip/cream cheese mixture evenly over the cookie crust

Make the Second Layer

  1. Pour 3 C cold milk into a large bowl

  2. Add both instant pudding packages

  3. Beat with a wire whisk until smooth

  4. Pour the pudding over the cream cheese layer

  5. Refrigerate for 4 hours or until the pudding is set

Top It Off

  1. Take the dessert out of the refrigerator

  2. Spread the remaining 4 oz of Cool whip over the pudding

  3. Grate the chocolate bar evenly over the dessert
    WARNING: The cheese grater can have sharp edges. Be sure to keep fingers clear of the path of the grate

  4. ENJOY!

Once the chocolate shavings are on the dessert, you are finished! Use a spatula to serve the dessert. The spatula will probably smear some of the layers together on the outside, but you should be able to tell there are three layers plus the crust. Once you have made this dessert once, the preparation time is a little faster. The total time will not change much due to the time needed to refrigerate the pudding. Just remember, once you make this and take it to a party, every one will expect you to bring it to every get together.
