How to Make a Barbie Bed!
The other day I was in my room and my little sister Ellie, (she's 7) asks me to help her find her doll furniture because she was missing a barbie couch, the bed, and a doll. Now we have a puppy whos about 14 months old and she is chewing EVERYTHING! So we went to her crate and opened the door there Ellies missing toys were mutated with pieces all over the cage. my sister started to cry and so I created it to be my mission to build my sister's furniture back starting with the bed.
Supplies
to make this barbie mattress and bed frame you will need
- two colors/designs of fabric/felt (I'm using felt)
- a large piece of cardboard
- a hot glue gun
- lots of hot glue sticks
- a doll for reference
- a marker
- stuffing
- craft sticks
- an Exacto knife, box cutter, or sharp pair of scissors
I'm using an 11.5-inch barbie so I will be using about 17 by 5.5-inch piece of cardboard for the frame and for the fabric
Making the Mattress
( this would be a good time to plug in your glue gun.) fold one piece of fabric (this will be used for the mattress) in half this will be a bit bigger than your mattress will be when it's done. lay your barbie down on the fabric. for a regular barbie, you will need about 1ft and 1inch tall and 1 foot wide. use the marker to draw your cutting lines and cut. then you will want to put glue in the glue gun. put a line of hot glue on each side of the fabric(i am using felt so 3 out of 4 edges are already clean) and fold it over so you can get rid of all of the messy edges. flip over the fabric to the neat side and fold it in half so the nice side is inside and put a line of glue to stick both sides together and put a line of glue on one of the other lines. let it dry. then fold the fabric inside out. add stuffing kleenex or paper. Put another line on the other end and press it together. (you can always sew but I don't know how) and bad bam bada boom the mattress is finished
Adding the Blanket
now we have to make the blanket. use your marker to trace your mattress and cut it a bit bigger than your lines. rap it around the mattress leaving the top not covered and glue the remaining fabric on the back. and you have a blanket make sure that you have a big enough pocket so that your doll can fit inside
Making the Pillow
to make the pillow cut a piece of fabric double the size you want your pillow and hot glue 2 of the 3 open edges. stuff it with stuffing or tissue paper and seal the last edge close. put a good amount of hot glue on the back of the pillow and glue it to the top of the mattress. if you want you can cut a long skinnier piece of fabric and hot glue it on the end as a throw blanket.
Bed Frame
now to make the bed frame. get a piece of cardboard and cut it to be the same size as the mattress. cut another piece of cardboard to be tall and the same width as the first piece of cardboard. hot glue craft sticks diagonally on both sides of the shorter cardboard. make it long enough because this piece of cardboard will be the front set of legs. cut a sorter piece of cardboard and put horizontal craft sticks on each side as the headboard.
Finishing
glue the foot and headboard to each end of the bed. add stabilizing craft sticks wherever needed. hot glue the mattress to the cardboard. and you are done! this is a really fun and easy craft to do. I love how you don't need to sew and it is still nice. my sister loves the bed for her dolls. thank you for reading this far and sorry about the bad camera quality. this is my very first Instructables! Have fun crafting!
