The DC-17 hand blaster was a blaster pistol that was carried by most clone troopers during the Clone Wars, and was the weapon of choice of Captain Rex. These blaster were carried particularly by high ranking commanders, captains, and ARC troopers. In this Instructable, I will teach you how to make a DC-17 prop out of basic materials!

Gather Materials!

You will need:

1. Cardboard
2. Reference Image
3. Scissors
4. Hot glue/Hot glue gun
5. Paper
6. Black Paint

Create a Reference Image

Using images online, I used a ruler and pencil to create a reference image on a piece of paper. This will later help us to trace the main body and details onto cardboard.

Cut Out the Reference Image

Cut out the reference image carefully with scissors. Once done, trace it onto the cardboard 4 times. For two of the slices, do not cut out the trigger. For the other two, cut it out. This will create some depth into our model and give it more detail.

Create a Barrel

Roll a piece of paper into a decently sized barrel. Once done, glue it so that it stays. Then, find something to cover the outer part of the barrel. I used a thin cereal box cardboard piece to do that. Then, in the two inner parts of the main body of the gun(The parts with the trigger), cut out space to put the barrel as shown in the image above. That way, you will have space to insert the barrel as shown.

Cover the Sides

Because we are using cardboard, the sides will be rough, which will make the prop look ugly. So, to fix that use some thin cereal box cardboard, and cover the sides like shown in the image above. It will give give the gun a smooth feel around the edges, and it will look a lot better that way.

Add a Top Layer

Trace the gun one more time on some thin cereal box cardboard, and glue it to the top of the main body of the gun. Do this on each side.

Cut Details

Cut the reference image you created so that the details are separated. Using these pieces, trace it onto some cardboard so that you can add more depth and detail to the gun. Then, glue these pieces to the gun.

Circular Part

Using a circular object, trace two circles onto cardboard. Stack them on top of each other and glue them. Then, use some cereal box cardboard to hide the edges. After that's all done, glue to the back of the gun like shown.

Ready for Paint!

Now the gun is ready for paint! You can use spray paint, acrylic paint, or any other kind of paint that works well with cardboard. I used black acrylic pant and gave it a paint job of flat black, to imitate the gun from the TV show.

Finished!
