Excuses are attempt to lessen the blame attaching to (a fault or offense). I feel like an excuse is a attempt at being relieved or exempted from a certain situation. There are many steps to creating an excuse but I am going to give you 6 easy steps to creating a good excuse.

Gather Materials

  • Composition book (my choice)
  • sticky notes
  • regular notebook
  • notes within your iPhone or android phone
  • a laptop
  • a napkin

A writing utensil:

  • pen (any color, but may be good to have two different colors)
  • pencil

  • color pencils

Create a List of Excuses

Create a list of excuses that are commonly known or research on the internet for excuses. It is easier to look up excuses on the internet because it will help to create a list of excuses that you will believe if it was said aloud.

Categorize the Excuses

Create categories for the list of excusesso that you will know which ones will definitely work, second choice, and the excuses that may not work.

Color coding helps to organize the excuses into specific traits for each excuse. You may organize the excuses depending on the reason, similarities, or even if you are crossing out the excuses because you have used them already.

Create Excuse

Once you have categorized your excuses, pick out 3 or 4 excuses for that specific class. Decide if the excuse will work for that class based off the time, location, and reason. The time is needed for if it is before the class or late for the class. The location can be for if you are late but it is mainly for how long it takes you to get to your class. The reason seals the deal of the excuse because it is what you are selling to your teacher.

Sell Your Excuse

Persuasion is the key to a good excuse while also acting out the excuse. You have to sell an item for someone to buy it.

For each excuse, there is a level of work that should be put into convincing someone of an excuse. We are not lying (we'll technically we are but we are not calling the excuse lying because it sounds bad when put that way). If the excuse is about your job or a sickness, make sure that the teacher is convinced of the problem. I am in college. I once told a teacher that I worked before the class in order to convince the teacher that I would be late on those days that I had that class. If the teacher wants proof, you can a confirmation from your job or you can create a confirmation yourself. Doctors note may be harder to create but you can always go into urgent care for an headache.

Tell the Teacher Your Excuse!

You have your excuses down. Now go and use them. Make sure the excuse is used at the right time.

DO NOT USE THE EXCUSE MY DOG ATE MY HOMEWORK. (this excuse will not work)

Every excuse you create comes with another excuse depending on how you use the excuse. You have to sell and act out the reason and make sure that the teacher is convinced. You do not want to make the excuse something that you can sell like a alien or something that is not convincing to yourself. I have never seen my dogs eat my homework and I doubt they will eat my homework. So make sure that the excuse works.
