Gather your supplies: For this project you will need:

  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 tablespoon of borax
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons of Elmer's glue
  • 2 disposable cups
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Parchment paper
  • Optional: liquid food coloring
  • Optional: disposable rubber gloves (it can get a little messy!)

Measure out 1/2 cup of warm water and 1 tablespoon of borax into a disposable cup.

Mix Water and Borax

Mix water and borax using a popsicle stick until the borax is completely dissolved.

Measure Out the Cornstarch

Measure out 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and place it into a separate disposable cup.

Measure Out the Glue

Measure out 2 tablespoon of glue into the same cup as the cornstarch and mix it thoroughly using a popsicle stick.

Mix It Together

Mix glue and cornstarch using a clean popsicle stick until the cornstarch is completely mixed and there are no hard lumps. Add a couple drops of liquid food coloring if desired.

Combine to Form Bouncy Ball

Add the glue and cornstarch mixture to the water and borax mixture. Press it to the walls of the container for 10 seconds. The glue and cornstarch mixture should slightly solidify after about 10 seconds.

(This is where you may want to put on disposable rubber gloves if you do not want to risk the possibility of getting your hands messy.)

Remove and Let Dry

Remove the glue and cornstarch mixture from the disposable cup. Place the semi-solid mixture on a sheet of parchment paper and let dry for 3-5 minutes.

Give It Shape

Roll the mixture in your hands to create a ball.

Test Your Bouncy Ball

Test your bouncy ball by dropping it on a hard surface like on the ground or a table. Store bouncy balls in a small plastic container or plastic bag.

(Note: The bouncy ball may start to collapse if left sitting on a flat surface. This is fine. Just roll the ball in your hands to reshape it.)
