How to Make a Mockingjay Pin: As Seen on the Hunger Games

IMG_3637.JPG
Ok so this instructable is really simple to make but it takes a lot of time and patience. To make this Mockingjay pin you will need the following:
-clay (that can be put in the oven)
-knife
-gold and black paint (I used nail polish)
-a pin
-scolpting tools
-an oven
-glue

Step 1:

Ok so to start you need to roll out the clay. After its rolled out cut out a big circle then with the same circle cut a smaller one inside of it.

Once its cut out putitin the oven for about 10 minutes (or the time your clay takes to cook). when its done let it cool then you can start to
make the body of the bird. when you do this make sure its not to thick because you want the pin to look like its the real thing.

Once the main body is cut out you can place it in the centre of the circle ring. then place it back in the oven. when its done and you take it out, carefully turn it over with out burning yourself.

Now that its cooled you want to fill in the back so its flat and there is no chance for the middle to sink in. when its covered and all cut to match the body put it back in the oven and let it cool once more.

Step 2:

Here is the step when you want to start adding detail to your mockingjay pin.

first thing you sould start with is the wings. for this I used a dotting tool to add lines and make it look like there was feathers.

next I added more clay to the body and the tail. for the head i only put a small amount of clay because you will have to do more to it in a nother step.

-Make sure as u go u put it in the oven for at least 5 min so your detail will stay as you  keep making this

Step 3:

So your going to put the pin aside and your going to work on the arrow.

First thing you do is roll out a very thin peice of clay and bake it in the oven. once cooled make the arrow head and attach it to the thin peice of clay once its cooled. then put that in the oven. roll out a verythin peice of clay and put it in the same time u  put in the arrow.
(now if your clay burns at any point its ok because your going to be painting it after)

when the arrow and thin peice of clay is cooked and cooled. cut out verysmall peices that look like feathers and glue them to the oppiside of the arrow head. once dry attatch to the rest of the pin. place in the oven again and let cool.

Step 4:

when tha arrow is attatched to the hole peice and its totally cooled you can start to add more clay to the head and make some detail. put it back into the oven one more time and let cool.

Step 5:

Now that you pin is all made you can start to paint it. first paint the hole pin gold, make sure its painted every where.

then add some black on it were you will see some shadded areas.

Step 6:

so when your pin is completly dry you can glue the pin to the back of your mockingjay and let it dry. after about 2 hours it should be good to wear and show off to your friends. :)
