How to Make a Paper Airplane

It can be somewhat difficult to make a stylish paper airplane that can actually fly straight. To make the lives of those individuals that venture into the world of model aerodynamics and DIY toys I have personally developed a paper airplane that is simple and yet does its job with style. The most two most important objectives are to make an airplane that can be replicated with ease and to have fun.

Without the proper materials necessary your project will not come out as expected. Luckily the materials list is only one item long! All that you will need is a piece of paper, any kind of paper will work but I used a piece of college rule notebook paper.

Tear off the fringed border side of the piece of paper along the easy to tear line.

Holding the top two corners of the paper, bring the corners toward each other symmetrically and fold it so that it makes two even triangular flaps as shown above.

Turn the piece of paper over so that the flaps are facing down.

Fold the two symmetrical flaps inward so that the points of the two triangular flaps are facing downward toward the longer expanse of the paper as shown above. The flaps should now be facing up on the paper.

Fold the two triangular flaps so that the points of the two triangles face away from the expanse of the paper and protrude outward from the body of the paper. The folding should be along the fifth blue line from the top of the paper.

Fold the paper in half long ways so that you can not see any of the prior folds except for a small triangle of folded paper on the top side of the paper as shown above. Try to keep the paper folded as symmetrically and even as possible.

Fold one of the flaps at the edge of where the triangle seen protruding from the top of the piece of paper meets the the main body of the paper. Fold all the way down from top to bottom trying to keep the fold as horizontal as possible.

Fold the other flap as done in the previous step so as to make the paper as symmetrical as possible.

Bring the two folded flaps together so that they are even and sit flush against one another.

Bring the corner of the flap on the side where the protruding triangle is toward the middle of the paper to create a right triangle straight down the middle of the paper, the new triangle should be facing upward.

Fold the other side of the paper just like how it was done in the previous step, try to keep the paper as symmetrical as possible. There should now be two right triangular flaps along the middle of the paper with the hypotenuse of each right triangle facing outward.

Fold the edges of two sides along the long side of the paper so as to make two symmetrically parallel flaps that sit vertically. The two edges should be perpendicular to the wings of the plane and should be about 2 centimeters wide.

The final result should look like this when completed properly. The plane should fly straight and is best when used indoors or in places where there is little to no wind.
