How to Make a Rc Plane

in this instructable i will show you how to make a Rc plane. The picture above is my original Rc plane, however it was far too heavy and the esc caught on fire. So i have put together a list of upgraded parts and materials, to ensure that your plane works. Have fun building!

i built the ft mighty mini mustang so i will tell you all of the parts needed to build and fly this plane. The required materials include the transmitter, receiver, servos(4), brushless motor, propellers, glue gun, razor blade, landing gear, firewall, control horns, and of course the body (in this case the ft mini mustang) above i have pictured all of the materials and tools needed to assemble this plane. The kit i got doesn’t come with wheels for the landing gear (the landing gear wire is included though) so i improvised and just got them myself. I got slightly large wheels to the plane can take off and land in the grass without flipping over and possibly breaking a prop. Here’s another tip. On the last plane i made (same model) i tried gluing the landing gear right onto the foam board, and the foam board just ripped. I would recommend getting a thin square of balsa wood or something similar, and just glue it under where you are putting the landing gear. This will make sure that the foam board doesn’t break and also adds durability.

When you are building the body you are going to need the razor blades, the glue gun, and the packing tape as tools. You also need the ft mini mustang and 2 of the servos. (The servos have to be glued into the wings before you glue the wings shut) Flite test has a really helpful video on building the ft mini mustang on YouTube. Also utilize my tip on how to install the landing gear above.

Add Electronics

I would add pictures however my previous plane didn’t have the correct electronics so just follow the flite test YouTube video. You will notice that the power pod where the motor gets mounted is a little tilted and doesn’t have a 90 degree corner. I looked it up and this is actually purposeful it makes sure the the motor is at the right angle for the plane to fly correctly. Anyway click this link to see what electronics you need for this step. https://docs.google.com/document/d/14i93Wq0yGl-14uQ8zh2gcceHC_kQtpOOOrGdz_dmf-E/edit you will notice that the electronics wont work if you just put them in and don’t plug them in or anything so i will tell you how to plug them in. First grab your esc (electronic speed controller) and plug the 3 wires into the other 3 wires on the motor. Next plug then other wire into the first channel on the receiver(or just whatever channel works) next plug the servos into whatever channels work. If the ailerons or rudder aren’t turning the right way according to the joysticks on your flysky fs-i6x transmitter then just go onto the settings and go to the place where it says reverse controls and you can reverse the control for whatever servo you like. If you have any questions then just contact me in the comments. Good luck!

Finish Up

If you want to paint your plane or anything then i would recommend spray paint. It is cheap and also leaves a light coat on your plane so that it doesn’t lose any flying ability. You can also use monokote or a similar product but it will be harder and more expensive. Also be sure to get your cg (center of gravity) right or else your plane may crash. The cg on this plane it one inch from the leading edge of he wing. Good luck building the plane and remember to look at the build vid on the flite test channel.
