Hello and welcome in this instructable where we are going to make a 360° book.

360° books often illustrate tourist places, such as Mount Fuji in Japan which is very popular, or even magnificent landscapes such as a sunset. And so I said to myself why not make one with letters for this competition to celebrate the beauty of the texts, and as it is summer, I chose the word SUMMER for this 360° book since it represents the sun, vacations and especially the beach, basically this word represents good humor.

So I hope you enjoy this instructable and I wish you happy viewing!

Supplies

You will need:

  • 2-sided cardboard (if you don't have one, you can glue 2 cardboars together)
  • paper
  • pencil
  • eraser
  • colored pencil
  • felt pen
  • ruler
  • glue
  • thread and needle
  • craft knife

Cut Out the Supports

To begin, we are going to cut out the cardboard to make a book page.

Take the 2-sided cardboard and draw a rectangle 7.5 cm long and 6 cm wide. Make 8 like this and take 6 and leave the other 2 aside.

Draw the Letters

IMG_20240706_161344.jpg

To ensure that the letters all have the same size, I first drew a rectangle 5cm long and 3.5cm wide on a piece of paper and then I drew the letters in it, then I I cut out the letter and used it as a support to draw the letters on the cardboard, that way we risk making fewer mistakes on the cardboard.

To make tracing letters easier, you can divide the rectangle drawn on the paper into squares, with 1cm cubed on the sides and divide the length into 1cm. This makes R and E easier for example.

Draw the Frame

X8 (1).png
IMG_20240706_164140.jpg

Draw the frame by drawing a rectangle 1 cm from the edge. To do this, I advise you to draw points 1cm from the points for each side and then mark your way with them.

Decorate

IMG_20240706_190645.jpg

Now it's time to decorate to bring out all the beauty and highlight the letters.

For my part, I added a theme for each page therefore for each letter using the letter for the page as the first letter of the theme.

So I used the theme:

  • Sun, I drew a bigger sun on the S and I added a deckchair for tanning in the sun.
  • Umbrella, a beach umbrella
  • Map, for the first M I drew a world map and a compass to represent vacations in other countries, and for the second M I drew a car in a GPS and a beach to represent the car trip to go to the beach.
  • Eté, which means summer in French and that's why the word "été" with a French flag and a bucket hat because the summer holidays have just started in France.
  • Ray of sun, therefore bigger rays of sunlight.

Then, I colored the rest of the edge blue for the color of the sky.

Have fun decorating it however you want!

Cut and Take Care of the Other Side

Now with a cutter, remove the rest of the uncolored white between the frame and the letter, then go over the letter with a black marker to make it more visible.

On the other side of the cardboards, trace the letters with a black marker and color or decorate the frame part.

Book Cover

Now that we have finished the interior of the book it is time to take care of the cover, so take the 2 rectangle cardboards that we put aside at the beginning.

We are going to draw a frame but this time, the bottom line will be 1.5 cm from the edge so that we can write the title of the book.

Then cut the inside part of the frame and you can write the title, and then decorate and color.

Start Assembly

IMG_20240707_152744.jpg

Now it's time to put the book together.

To begin, we will take a piece of paper and draw a rectangle 6cm wide and at least 10cm long. This paper will allow us to assemble the pages.

After cutting it out, make folds of approximately 0.4 cm across the width, the 0.4 cm will allow us to glue the pages without spoiling the decoration too much. In total make about 28 folds.

Paste the Pages

As you can see, the most shapes like mountains and therefore between the peaks, there are hollows. So glue the pages by putting a little glue on the left side of the page to be glued, then stick it between 2 peaks in the hollows, and leave a hollow between the hollows where you glue the pages, take the example of the image which I colored: black line is where we glue the pages, and for the blue line it is where we glue the covers since for the covers, you can glue them on only one mount.

Put the letters in the correct order in the word and when you have pasted everything, cut off the excess paper.

Make sure that you have pasted it correctly and that you can open the pages.

Spine

IMG_20240707_160610.jpg

So that our book opens correctly like a normal book we are going to install a spine, to do this cut a rectangular paper 6cm long and 1.5cm wide, then fill the spine of the book with glue and glue the spine, if the Exceeded paper, paste it following the shape of the book.

Thread Support

IMG_20240707_150250.jpg
IMG_20240707_165104.jpg

To prepare for the passage of the thread, we will draw a small semi-circle and a dot in the middle at the bottom for the interior pages and 2 small dots in the middle at the bottom superimposed for the covers.

Then put the book in a circular position as in the picture and take a needle and thread that is a little larger than the size of the circle that the book makes.

Pass the Thread

Now that the path is drawn, let's start by attaching the thread to a cover as in the picture, then leaving a distance of approximately 6cm between the pages, pass the thread over the middle pages taking the example of the picture and finally pass it on the other cover.

I also put an example of a fairly strong double knot that you can do easily, and if you can make a double knot to make it strong it will be even better.

Finished

And here we come to the end of this instructable.

Don't forget to use the images to fully understand the steps.

Making a 360° book like this for a birthday gift by writing the first name of the lucky recipient could also be a very creative idea.

I also put you a video of the opening of the book just at the bottom to see the fruit of our work! don't hesitate to watch it.

Thanks for watching this instructable.

Bye!
