How to make a vertical planter
Cut Out All of the Pieces
Aquire all the wood you need and cut out all the pieces for the planter according to the dimensions given.
Assemble the Legs
Use two of the 60" planks and line them up to create two legs. Then you are going to use three 2 1/2 inch screws to secure the top edges of the legs
Assemble the Leg Supports
Use two of the angled cut pieces to create the leg braces. There should be a 5 5/8 margin between the edges of the pieces. Use 3 1 1/4 inch screws to secure the pieces together. Do this twice.
Attach Leg Braces to Legs
Align the leg braces to the spaces between the legs. On the thicker side use 2 1/2 inch screws. On the thinner side use 1 1/4 inch screws. Do this on both legs.
Attach Cleats to the Legs
On the inside of each leg. There will be 6 legs that act as holders for the shelves. The first cleat will be 6 9/16 inches down on one side and 10 1/2 inches down on the other to forma an angle. Using this angle attach the other cleats in 8" intervals. Do this on both legs. Screw in using 1 1/4 inch screws
Create the Backboard
Using the tongue and groove boards, connect them together to create one large board. This will act as the back of the planter. Using 3 33.5" planks of wood, attach them to the backboard to stabilize it. The top board should hang 1 1/2 inches beyond the top edge. Each board should hang 1 1/2 inches beyond the side edges.
Attach the Bottom Support
Use a 30.5 inch plank of wood to attach both legs together. The plank should be 6" from the bottom of the legs. Use 3 2 1/2 inch screws to attach the legs to the plank on each side.
Attach the Backboard
Lay the backboard into the space created by the legs. It should catch onto the the edges. Use 3 2 1/2 inch screws to attach each overlapping plank to the legs.
Placing the Shelves
Flip the planter so that it is standing up and place the planks accordingly to each shelve spot. Drill some holes at the bottom to allow for water to drain when needed.
