How to Make a Wooden Deadpool Key Ring
I recently went to London Film & Comic Con. After my visit I was itching to make something comic related so it had to be Deadpool. I thought a simple key ring would scratch my itch so here is how you can make one too:
Materials Used:
- Padauk
- Zebrano
- Milliput (Black & White)
- Wood Glue
- Spray Polyurethane
- Metal Clip
- Self Adhesive Paper
Tools Used:
- Bandsaw
- Belt Sander
- Mini Rotary Tool
- Drill
- Sand Paper
- Pliers
Creating the Shape
To start the project I cut some padauk at the bandsaw and sanded it flat on all sides. I could then add a template for the Deadpool logo.
Then using a small bit in a rotary tool I carved away the black areas.
To rough cut the shape I used the bandsaw again and also cut some zebra wood for a backer piece to the key ring while I was there.
The final outer shaping was done on the belt sander.
Adding the Milliput
To fill the black areas I used some 2 part epoxy putty called Milliput. After pressing it into place I left it to set over night.
Once it was set I could sand it flush. I still needed to carve the eyes of the logo so I used the small rotary tool again. This time I used white Milliput to fill the carved sections.
After it had set over night it could be sanded flush too.
Glue Up & Finish
Before gluing I drilled the hole up top for adding the metal clip later.
When the glue was dry I hand sanded it smooth to 240 grit.
For the finish I used 3 coats of spray polyurethane
Adding the metal clip was nice and easy with a pair of pliers.
That's the key ring done. A nice simple enjoyable project that can be adapted to suit any logo or hero you like.
I hope you liked it and give it a try for yourself.
