How to Make a Wooden Lid

If you have a beautiful vase or pot and you want to store your favorite sweets and candies in it, you should make a decent cover.

Please, get several quarter-sawn ash planks. This sort of timber boasts attractive texture and color.

Put the resulting work-pieces together into what will be a board. Please, match color and fiber direction. Mark the face.

Plane the pieces using a hand planer and put them together.

Glue the pieces together into a single board. Remove excess glue with a damp sponge. Wait until the glue dries.

Process the board on a thickness planer until it is 21 mm thick.

Draw 130 mm and 120 mm circles, using a divider. Mark the center point.

Drill a 4 mm blind hole.

Place a hand router onto a hand-made compass. Set the radius at 68 mm.

Fix the compass and the router at the center point and cut a 12-14 mm deep circular groove.

Shift the rooter by 8 mm (radius 60 mm) and cut a quarter 10 mm deep.

Move the router back to the original position and cut the circle all the way through the plank.

Fix an 8 mm radius cutter on a trim router and cut the outer flange. Then replace the 8 mm cutter with a 5 mm one and cut the inner flange.

Polish the cover until it looks great and feels smooth. Pull a rubber band on it. It is going to be a sealing rubber.

Fit the cover to your container and draw a pattern on the top.

Transfer the Skittles logo image onto the board using a piece of carbon paper. I found the image on a specialized website. Nail or clip the paper to the board.
Contour poorly drawn lines with a pencil. Paint it with a brush. Apply the original color pattern.
