How to Make an Instant Garden Using Seed Balls

In this instructable we tell you how to make seed balls out of natural ingredients. These seed balls contain guilds of seeds (seeds that grow well together) and can be dropped wherever you wish to add a miniature garden. Our seed balls include Calendula, Poppies, Hollyhocks, Kale, Queen Anne's Lace, and Chicory seeds.

Add one part seeds and combine with enough moisture to make the mixture sculpable but not squishy...

Step 4

Shape the mixture a tablespoon or two at a time into whatever you like. Be sure to smooth and not leave cracks or your art will break apart as it dries.

What Do We Do With Them?

This is a great way to teach kids that a little dirt never hurt! The whole family can distribute the seed balls and check back to see how each miniature garden is progressing. After they are placed the rain will melt the clay, releasing the seeds. The compost will nourish the seeds as they grow, perfect! At the end of the season you can harvest new seeds and begin again. Enjoy:)
