How to Make an Origami Hermit Crab

You may have seen some origami online that looks really impressive,but when you went to try, you couldn't make heads or tails of the video or diagrams . So I decided to make my own origami hermit crab! It was modified to a v2 which I will be teaching you how to fold today. It will take around 10-30 min depending on your skill level and understanding of the instructions. I took inspiration from other designs and real life examples. I hope you enjoy! ( sorry if my photos are bad , hopefully I'll get a new camera. :) )

Supplies

Paper ( preferably origami paper here's some on amazon 6x6 inch go here).

Intermediate to advanced origami skills. There WILL be tricky steps

time!

Precreasing

Precrease the diagonals and fold in half both ways. Then, unfold it all.

Collapsing

Collapse the folds into a Waterbomb Base. If you get stuck, look on google for how to do it.

Squash Folds

Fold both sides to the center line . Then, squash on existing creases and fold the flaps to the side. Then turn over

More Squash Folds

Fold the top point on the back to the bottom of the triangle. Then unfold and squash on existing creases

Spread Sinking

Fold both sides to the center. Then, spread sink them and fold the flaps back.

Fold on the diagonal line on the flaps. Both layers both sides. Then reverse fold them n to form the ( soon to be) hermit crab legs and eyes.

Fold the sides of the diamond shape to the center. Then, squash and fold back the flap. Repeat on all of the flaps

The Sinking

Fold then sink the sides on the crease

Opening

Pull the flaps out and shape to taste. Leave the deepest flap pointing straight up and shape to your liking

Fold in Half

Claws

Fold the claws down . Then mountain fold and reverse fold the claws and shape to taste

The Shell

Crimp the back section to form a shell and shape to taste

Shaping

Shape the legs, claws, eyes, and shell to taste and you are done!
