How to Make an Origami Wayfinder

Image 102.jpg
Inspired from Kingdom Hearts, I came up with a way to make my own wayfinder. Its simple design gives room for any improvements or details that can be added to make it unique.

Her's a video on making it:

Materials

You will need:
-5 square (origami) pieces of paper. Using larger pieces will make it easier to put together.

If you want to make one like the picture, you will also need:
-length of string
-centerpiece symbol (you can chose what you want for the center)
-tape

Making the Shards

To make the wayfinder, you need to make 5 shards (just like from the game) that will be put together. I placed lines along folds to make it easier.

Start off with one piece of paper and fold it diagonally in half. Fold the side corners along the diagonal fold, then fold the upper tips along the diagonal fold also. Take the previous folds and fold them along their creases as shown. Then, fold the paper in half, hiding the upper tip under the shown flaps. Fold the bottom corners along the center, the turn the paper over and fold the edges from there. Repeat until you have all 5 shards.

Putting It All Together

On the bottom tips there are spaces that you will slide each of them through to keep them together. When inserting them, keep them overlapped in one direction. If you want it kept together securely, use a stapler if you want and staple where the tips are held in place.

Placing Add-Ons

After assembling the shards, you can place a string and a centerpiece symbol. For the string, open up one shard and tuck in a length of string. Refold the shard and it should stay. For the centerpiece symbol, I folded a type of design and taped it to the center. The type of style that you use for each add-on is up to you; be creative or create the original design!

Finished!
