Roping on a horse can be fun and nerve racking at the same time. I am going to show you in 9 different steps how to properly get the horse prepared. Did you know that an average saddle costs between $1,000 to $2,500.
Catch the Horse
First, Catch the horse and put the halter on, then tie the horse up somewhere where you have enough room to put the saddle on.
Place Blanket and Saddle Pad
Second, grab the blanket and saddle pad and place the blanket on the horse first making sure it’s right above the wither which is the bump at the bottom of the horses neck and then the saddle pad on top of the blanket and the make sure to place the pad hole on top of the wither.
Placing the Saddle
Third, grab the saddle and place the horn right on the top of the hole in the saddle blanket.
Putting on the Breast Collar
Next grab the breast collar pull it around the front of the horse to the other side and loop it through the metal ring on the left side of the saddle.
Back Cinch
Grab the back cinch strap and put it through the buckle but make sure it’s not tight so the horse wont buck.
Front Cinch
Then, Bring the front cinch strap across the belly of the horse and loop the latigo through it and then loop the latigo in the metal ring (you might have to loop it a couple times, but it depends how big your horse is), then pull the looped straps towards you to make sure its tight.
Breast Collar Hook
After getting the front and back cinch tightened grab the breast collar hook and hook it on the loop of the front cinch
Tie Down
Next, put the tie down on by putting the horses muzzle through the hole and then put the other strap behind the horse’s ears, then put the tie down strap through the front of the breast collar and hook it on the loop where the breast collar is.
Bridle
Lastly, grab the halter and put the mouthpiece in the horse’s mouth making sure the throat latch is under the horse’s muzzle, then put the other strap behind the horses ears making sure the horses ear in the hole on the strap.
