How to Take Awesome Pictures!

Taking pictures for your Instructables can be a difficult task, while taking good pictures can be practically impossible. This tutorial is to help you take better pictures, and help you improve your Instructables. Enjoy!

Note: I am definitely not a professional photographer. This tutorial is to help those who have no clue what to do, not to expound on the art of photography. That said, enjoy this Instructable, and I hope you do learn something!

What You'll Need

  • Light!
  • A Good Camera (I highly recommend the Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS)
  • A Photography Light Box Instructions
  • Something to Photograph

The Big Picture

The first question you may ask is, "What is my picture not supposed to look like?" Firstly, you should avoid shadows, if at all possible. Second, you should have coordinated colors. Third, you should avoid blurry pictures.

The second question you may ask is, "How?" First, you should light up your photography box from multiple points, not just from a single light source (such as a lamp, etc..). You can also use a special setting on your camera, such as "low-light" setting on the Canon PowerShot. Second, choose colors that are fairly close together on the color spectrum (yes, I know this is massive oversimplification). Third, use a tripod, or take the picture repeatedly until you have a non-blurry version.

If necessary, you can use Instructables photo editor to finish your photo. People who have a good eye for color and lighting can do whatever they like on this step, but people who don't may just want to use auto-fix.

Thank you for reading this tutorial, and I hope I've helped improve your Instructables. Have fun!
