How to Weave Gingham Pattern

Gingham is a beautiful pattern of squares in different shades of the same color. This is a super-easy pattern to weave!

1. 2 colors of yarn — one bold color and white
2. Loom (preferably use closer warp spacing, like 1/8”)
3. Tapestry needle
4. Scissors

I did 4 warps in black, another 4 warps in white, and so on. Since I have 20 notches on my loom and that is divisible by 4, that works for me. Make sure the number of warps in one color you do at a time is a factor of the number of notches on your loom.

Take a good length of yarn in your bold color and thread your needle. Since each square will be 4 warps wide, I wove 4 rows with my black yarn. Cut the yarn and leave a tail to weave in.

The next 4 rows will be in the color white. Continue alternating between your two colors until you reach the size you want for your gingham cloth.

When you’re done weaving, weave in all the loose ends and cut the weaving off the loom. Make sure to cut as far away as possible from the weft. Then take the first two warps and tie a square knot. Tie all the other warps into square knots too. Ta-da! You’re done!
