How to Maintain Your Swiss Knife

A Swiss Army knife (SAK), (French: Couteau suisse, German: Schweizer Offiziersmesser, Italian: Coltellino svizzero) is a brand of multi-function pocket knife or multi-tool. It originated in Ibach Schwyz, Switzerland in 1897. The term "Swiss Army knife" is a registered trademark owned by Wenger S.A. and Victorinox A.G., longtime suppliers of knives to the Swiss Armed Forces. Generally speaking, a Swiss Army knife has a blade as well as various tools, such as screwdrivers and can openers. These attachments are stowed inside the handle of the knife through a pivot point mechanism. The handle is usually red, and features a Cross and Shield, the coat of arms of Switzerland.

In this instructable I'll tell you how to sharpen, clean, oil, etc, your swiss kinife. Heres My swiss knife

Here is the materials youre going to need.

1.Whetting stone
2.Water
3.Oil
4.Oiling Can or Medicine Dropper
5.swiss knife
that is all

This is my knife.

To sharpen your knife/saw we first have to understand what a knife/saw is. A knife is actually a double inclined plane which we call wedge. To make this simple machine more efficient we have to make the edge as thin as possible but thick enough to withstand the material you are cutting.
A saw is a knife w/ zigzags or curves.

1. Get the whetting stone. Dip it in water.
2. Dip the knife in water
3.Put the blade on the Whetting stone
4.With the edge pointed at you, push the knife/saw away while making sure that it is rubbing against the whetting stone.
5.do this repeatedly until when you feel that the side of the blade is rough when you rub your finger on the side of the blade.
6.Do procedure no 4-5 with the other side.
7.If your saw is curved only at on side (like mine) Do it only on the side without curves.

The screw driver is a dull-pointed rod with 4 ridges. To repair a worn out screw driver, first locate the ridges. Then get the whetting stone.Put the screwdrivers ridge on the edge of the stone. Rub it on the stone. Do this with the other ridges until satisfied.

To oil the Pliers get the Oiling Can. Put the pout of the can on the "fulcrum". A pliers is actually two levers joined together at their fulcrum.
