How to Make a Glowing Black Light Night Light

In a few simple steps you can make an amazing collection of jars that glow under a black light bright enough to light up your creepy dark bedroom.

Materials

Here is a list of materials you will need for this experiment;

  1. Black Light - First off make sure you have a real black light for this tutorial. The florescent lights work the best but the smaller incandescent bulbs will work as well.
  2. Highlighters - Purchase a variety of cheap highlighters in bright colors. Some colors don't work as well as others. The brightest colors are yellow, green, and pink.
  3. Jar/Bottle of Clear Water - Self explanatory, you can handle this.
  4. Razor Knife or Scissors - Whichever tool you can operate without hurting yourself to cut open the felt strip from inside the highlighter is your best option.

Most people I've seen do this soak their felt strips in alcohol initially to avoid getting ink on their fingers, but I'm a free spirit and don't mind a little mess so I tear that strip up with a pair of scissors or a razor utility knife. Cause that's how I roll.

You really don't need much of the highlighter to do these. I use half a strip per jar so it's about $0.50 each. Not bad for the coolest night light ever!

This is the best part, which I assume you've already done because let's face it....you're awesome.
