How to Replace a Palm Zire 31 Battery With a NDSL Battery

In this instructable, I am going to show you how I replaced my dead Palm Zire 31's battery with one from a nintendo ds lite

to do this project, you will need:

a torx screwdriver, mine says t6x40mm on it
a soldering iron
solder

a dintendo ds lite 3.7v 1000mah li-ion battery or equal, the zire originally has a 900mah one, but this works just as well
a palm zire 31 with a bad battery

First, you will have to take the zire apart. to do this you will need to take out the 2 screws on the back of the device. after you take out the screws, gently pry the sides away to the front pops up. continue lifting the back off until it is free from the rest. if you want, you can remove the speaker from the back panel, by prying it up. lift up the battery with a butter knife or something of that sort. it is a bit tricky, but it isn't too hard

to prepare the ndsl battery you will need to solder 2 wires to it. make sure the are kind of thin, i didn't and now my stylus hardly fits. solder the two wires to the contacts on the battery, and do your best not to melt the plastic.

after you unsolder the old battery, solder the new battery to the contacts on the motherboard, remembering the positive (red) and negative (black) wire locations if all ofthe sicky residue came off with the old battery, buy some double sided sticky tape to hold it. make sure nothing is in its way, i had to break off a tab on the back banel so the panel would go back on. if the battery still has a charge, the zire will turn on after you finish soldering

if you did everything right, the zire will turn on after a little charging. if not:

did you accidentally unsolder or damage one of the components?
were the positive and negative wires soldered correctly?
